TechStart
At TAF, we know that “college-ready” begins early. TechStart is our program offered to elementary school students during the school day at our partnering schools. We help students improve academically through projects that directly relate what they learn in school to real-world experiences; we also include components that help students become college-aware.
TAF staff design a STEM-rich curriculum and work alongside public school teachers to implement it, in class periods specifically
designated for the program. TAF also provides equipment for students to use during TechStart, such as laptops and robotics kits, and the software to make it work.
Curriculum for TechStart is different for each grade level. Our students do robotics, learn how to blog, design websites, create plans for new buildings, and more.
This project-based approach to learning encourages students to develop life skills, like:
- Critical thinking
- Information synthesis
- Problem solving
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Self-confidence
