Dear TAF,
This week, we are working diligently to process TechStart applications for fall classes which start the first week of October. (Can you believe that's just a few weeks away?!) It's wonderful seeing so many familiar faces come by the TAF offices with their parents. They are so eager to learn something new.  I know we're not going to disappoint them.

Last year, we were blown away by the enthusiasm and projects that came out of our Robotics classes. While the students were having fun, they learned a lot about scientific inquiry, engineering, technology and project management.

We're kicking off the fall session with another Robotics class, taught by one of our lead teachers and in-house robotics guru, Richard Brown. The plan is to roll the class out to all of our 3rd-6th grade classes next spring.

The thing is, the robotics kits cost $250 a piece--that's about $1,500 in equipment alone
to bring this dynamic course to a class of 12 young people.

You can help us make this first Robotics session a success. Click here to show your support for TechStart and raise the $1,500 needed to buy Lego Robotics kits for the class this fall. Then, for all you bloggers and tweeters, help us spread the word!

TAF has been quite fortunate throughout this challenging financial climate to have TAF Alliance Partners committed to supporting TechStart. UPS and JPMorgan Chase recently joined the class of corporations who put their support behind our after-school program as Megabyte Sponsors. Last year, the UPS team officially adopted a TechStart class, providing volunteers throughout the school year.

We still need your help to deliver all the classes our students need and deserve.

Talk to your company about whether they would be interested in a unique volunteer opportunity or investing in the community as an Alliance Partner. Send us an email to find out more information.

Here's another idea to support TAF and TechStart: Check out our profile on Jolkona.org. This new local nonprofit wants to show the difference each donation makes. They have chosen TAF as one of two oganizational partners in Seattle. Consider making your donation to the TechStart Robotics program through their site.

Next time, I'll fill you in on the first days of class at TAF Academy. We just released the 2008-2009 TAF Academy Network Report with a thorough look back at our first year in operation!
