Period 7 Marshmallow Launcher Challenge
As part of our end-of-tutoring celebration,
I presented students with an engineering design challenge: Build a
marshmallow launcher that could successfully hit a cardboard target.
The only materials I gave them were a box of old school supplies and
recyclable items plus 10 feet of masking tape. We ended up with some really interesting designs. A few of them nearly met the challenge. All of our kids got a great consolation prize: Eating the leftover marshmallows!
Career DayWhat do paper airplanes, website building, and an equine medical truck have in common? They were all part of TAF Academy's first Career Day. Damaris Pearson, our college and career counselor, arranged for more than a dozen guest speakers to address our students.
In these last few weeks of the 2008-2009 school year, each grade level will be working on community projects. During the final student exhibitions in June, students will present a year-in-review magazine, ideas for student recognition programs, and designs for new school recruitment materials.
Thank you for your support of all of TAF's programs.
