Internships
We would like to thank all of the employers who hired TTIP students. All 36
students did extremely well interning this summer. For most students, summer
internships ended on August 15th. Many students got to work beyond
their eight-week commitment, due to hard work and employer's request. As we
continue to collect the end of the summer evaluations, we are excited to know
that majority of our students exceeded expectations of their employers. Several
employers have already expressed an interest to hire more TTIP students for
next summer. We are excited and we’re looking forward to continuing to work
with our employers this upcoming year.
Here is what some employers had to say:
PACCAR - Tommy has done a nice job for us this summer and it’s been a
pleasure to have him with us. His continued TAF education will make him even
more valuable as an intern next year. He has a great attitude and persistence
to work at a problem until he has it figured out.
Berlex - It has been an absolute pleasure to participate in this program
and see someone like Jenny do well. She will be a great asset to any employer,
regardless of her chosen profession. Jenny is eager to learn and apply her
knowledge. She remembers what she is shown. Her updates were QA’d and they were
always correct. Jenny worked in the part of IT that is customer focused. Her
personality and eagerness to please will make her successful in the customer
service aspects of her job.
100% of TTIP Year One Students Complete Summer Course
For the first time in the 6 year history of TTIP, 100% (up from 85%) of our
first year students have completed their coursework! This is both a
testament to the students themselves, and the continued improvement of our
selection process. These students gave up their entire summer by coming to
clasess 4 days per week, six hours per day for eight weeks. They came to class
each day eager to learn, and ready to be challenged. They learned
everything from networking to web development to programming.
For their final web project project, the year one students did a phenomenal job
working with local non-profits to create websites. Students created websites
utilizing the skills they gained during the summer. The non-profit agencies
that participated were Northwest Black Engineers, Beacon Hill Chamber of
Commerce and It's Your Choice Leadership & Training Institute. Please click
on the links below to see the student’s creative work.

TTIP Curriculum Moves to Microsoft's C# Programming Language
We’re thrilled to have 70 students returning in October. We’re gearing up for
new fall classes we have available for students. We are no longer offering the
Media track due to less demand from employers for internships in the media
industry. The tracks being offered this fall are C# for ASP.Net, C# for
Windows, Java Script and Networking. We are actively seeking volunteers who can
assist in classes starting October. If you’re interested in learning more about
TTIP volunteer opportunities, please contact Sherry Williams, Program Manager
by email or phone at sherryw@techaccess.org
or 206-725-9095 X.14.
