The TechStart Model

The primary goal of TechStart is to increase competencies in core academic subjects (math, science and writing). But our approach in the classroom goes well beyond that. All TechStart students can expect to develop essential life skills, too.

Each TechStart generally class has two components.

The first part is teacher-driven instruction. Students learn new facts and concepts and are introduced to new technologies that will be used in the second part of the class.

During the second part of each class, students work alone or in groups, researching their topic, collecting data, analyzing data and preparing final project materials.

This project-based learning approach encourages many critical life skills, including:

    • Critical thinking
    • Information synthesis
    • Problem solving
    • Teamwork
    • Self-confidence
    • Research and presentation skills
    • Using technology as a tool for learning

The TechStart experience builds a solid foundation for middle and high school and gets kids excited for future successes in higher education.

The ultimate goal of TechStart is to promote college as a viable option—particularly in STEM fields—for each student.
