LEED Certification

The TAF Community Learning Space will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification. Some of the elements that will enable us to be LEED certified are:

Building Up 10-15% of the building will be composed of reused materials
Building exterior Salvaged medal sheets and panels
Pedestrian bridge Salvaged floor joists from Park Lake Homes
Main stairs Salvaged metal materials
Workspace counter tops Paper stone made from recycled paper and resin
Office partitions Finished with salvaged fire hose instead of sheetrock
Lab floors Tile from linseed oil, cork flower, tree resin, and a jute backing
Lab exterior walls Finished with salvaged solid core doors instead of sheetrock
Casework All casework is made from bamboo
Carpet All carpet is from recycled materials
Bathroom and kitchen counter tops Recycled aluminum
Bathroom tile Recycled from car windshields
Toilet partitions Recycled plastic
Conference room floors Salvaged wood flooring
Heating and cooling Third floor natural ventilation system, sunshades reduce energy needs Biodiesel/oil furnace for rest of building
Landscaping Drought tolerant plants, gabion retaining walls
Drainage Rain garden to catch roof runoff
